About Bryan
Bryan Stratte began his filmmaking journey at Santa Clara University’s Louis B. Mayer Theatre where he spent four years immersed in his lifelong passion. After studying acting, producing, directing and writing at Santa Clara, Stratte, along with his brother Pete Stratte, he created and set out on tour with The UpSide, a popular college sketch comedy show.
Two years later he answered a call by writer Buddy Sheffield (Dolly, In Living Color) to work on the television pilot Cheap Theatrix, produced by Fox/Saban Entertainment. Bryan wrote, directed and appeared in a segment for the pilot. Soon after completing work on Cheap Theatrix, Stratte again collaborated with Fox Television on another pilot, Our House in which Stratte wrote and developed.
Working on two full-scale television pilots was the perfect experience for Stratte, who then teamed with camera operator/DP Duane Manwiller (Ocean’s Eleven, Red Dragon, Miami Vice) to write, produced, directed and edited the Miramax Films documentary Full Behind which tracked the production process of Steven Soderbergh’s (Ocean Eleven, Traffic, The Informant) feature film Full Frontal.
Soderbergh was suitably impressed with Full Behind and Stratte soon found himself acquisitioned by Soderbergh, James Cameron (Aliens, Titanic, Avatar) and Gregory Jacobs (Criminal, Magic Mike XXL, Ocean’s Twelve), to write, produce, direct, and edit a documentary about the sci-fi thriller Solaris, entitled Solaris: Behind The Planet. The documentary became the behind-the-scenes added feature on the film’s DVD.
Next, Stratte accepted the offer to co-direct a music video for Japanese rapper Deli. This was the first ever Japanese music video filmed in the USA on 35mm with an all-American crew. The video ran with great success on MTV Japan.
After completing the music video, Stratte returned to his narrative roots directing Ron Livingston (Office Space, Swingers, The Cooler), Tava Smiley (Good Luck Chuck, General Hospital, Clean Sweep), Johann Urb (2012, 1480, Eastwick) and Andy Comeau (8 Heads in a Duffle Bag, Huff, One Hour Photo) in a quirky romantic comedy short entitled Life Happens that won the Platinum Remi Award at Worldfest Houston International Film Festival and was an official selection of the Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films.
Following the success of Life Happens Stratte dove headlong into the booming reality craze showrunning over 100 episodes of television for nearly every major cabler. These series have sent him to the four corners of America. Working with diverse casts and in extreme to unique locations, Stratte has created a name for himself as producer that can tell great stories no matter what.
His work in reality television landed him at TBS showrunning CeeLo Green’s The Good Life, a soft-scripted comedy series staring CeeLo Green (The Voice, Hotel Transylvania, The Boondocks). Also in the comedy world, Stratte directed the pilot Actors Anonymous, for which he won the New York International Film Festival Best Director award for his work directing Lorenzo Lamas (Falcon Crest, Renegade, Grease), Sally Kirkland (JFK, General Hospital, Bruce Almighty), Charlene Tilton (Dallas, Problem Child 2, Superhero Movie) and Brian Krause (Charmed, Another World, Sleepwalkers). The pilot also won the Audience Award for TV.
Stratte also has extensive experience in the commercial directing world. He has won two celebrated awards: the Golden Eagle Award for Best PSA/Commercial at the prestigious Cine Awards and the Gold Remi Award for best TV Commercial/PSA at the 38th Worldfest Houston International Film Festival.
Through his dedication, his passion, his professionalism and above all his filmmaking talent, Bryan Stratte has earned the respect of all those with whom he has worked. His experience in front of the camera makes him the quintessential actor’s director. His proficiency in the cutting room makes him an enlightened editor’s director. His writing talents and ability to direct talent make him an inspired storyteller.
